Travel Training aims to educate, enable and empower people to travel confidently between their place of residence and their place of work, school or any other destination. It helps individuals become more confident and self-reliant as a result of learning to travel independently.

Travel Training is about getting helpful advice to assist you to become more independent in accessing your community. It is about planning your journey so you can feel relaxed and confident when you travel. It may be that you need help with understanding timetables or someone to go with you for the first time.

People who meet the NDIS access requirements are called participants. Participants receive funded supports and an individual plan.

If you are a person with disability and want to join the NDIS, you need to meet the access requirements. These include: availability of the Scheme where you live; your age; your residency status; your disability and in some cases your early intervention requirements.

If you think you meet these criteria, you can apply to join the NDIS.

You must be under 65 years of age when you apply to join the Scheme.

To meet the residency requirements, you must in Australia and:

  • be an Australian citizen    OR
  • hold a Permanent Visa    OR
  • hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
